The world narrowly missed a David Lynch/Kanye West collaboration

David Lynch professed his love of Kanye West’s music during a talk at the Brooklyn Academy of Music back in April, where he praised Yeezus track “Blood On The Leaves” for being “modern” and “minimal.” Lynch liked the song so much, he and West even got together and decided to make a music video for it. The idea seems bizarre, but in a so-crazy-it-just-might-work kind of way. After all, lyrics like “When you tried your first molly / And came out of your body / Running naked down the lobby”—especially with that eerie Nina Simone sample playing throughout—could have made for some great Lynchian fodder.

But somewhat unsurprisingly, the two found they lacked creative chemistry. Lynch said that West came over to his house one day to brainstorm, but he couldn’t come up with anything that was mutually satisfactory. “Kanye’s a good guy, and a great musician,” he told The Daily Beast. “I loved the song, and that’s what brought us together, but I couldn’t come up with ideas that thrilled either one of us.” Meanwhile, there is still no official video for the song, despite multiple YouTube titles claiming otherwise.
