The writer of Nebraska makes his directorial debut with The Confirmation

The first trailer has been released for The Confirmation, a father-son adventure tale starring Clive Owen as Walt, a struggling, divorced carpenter who has to take care of his 8-year-old son Anthony (Jaeden Lieberher, who plays Johnny Masters on Masters Of Sex) while Anthony’s mom (Maria Bello) and her new husband are away for the weekend. But when Walt’s precious toolbox is stolen, a quiet weekend at dad’s turns into a (presumably) heartwarming adventure with dad. They embark on a twisty mission to get back the wooden toolbox, but the real thing they need to repair is their relationship—or something like that. Patton Oswalt co-stars as a colorful drywall repairman, along with Matthew Modine, Robert Forster, Tim Blake Nelson, and Stephen Tobolowsky.

The Confirmation was written and directed by Bob Nelson, who won an Academy Award for writing the screenplay for Alexander Payne’s Nebraska. The Confirmation—which hits theaters and iTunes on March 18—marks Nelson’s directorial debut, and while it isn’t in black and white, the trailer definitely has a similar feel to Nebraska’s stripped-down style.
