The xx wins Britain's Mercury Prize
The awesomeness of The xx's self-titled, 2009 debut is pretty well established. But a little affirmation is nice—especially when it comes in the form of a 20,000-pound prize. As reported by the NME, the moody, minimalist outfit accepted its highly relevant and universally respected Barclaycard Mercury Prize last night in a ceremony in London, where it beat out 11 fellow British acts, including Dizzee Rascal, Foals, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Paul Weller. Below is a full list of this year's nominees:
Biffy Clyro, Only Revolutions
Corinne Bailey Rae, The Sea
Dizzee Rascal, Tongue N' Cheek
Foals, Total Life Forever
I Am Kloot, Sky At Night
Kit Downes Trio, Golden
Laura Marling, I Speak Because I Can
Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More
Paul Weller, Wake Up The Nation
