The Young Pope says no to negotiation in new teaser
HBO’s new teaser for The Young Pope gives us a glimpse at a man of the cloth by way of Don Draper and/or Tony Soprano. Jude Law’s titular pontiff is mildly threatening, and apparently unwilling to “negotiate” under any circumstances. Though the new look at the project isn’t that much more extensive than what Sky Atlantic released back in June, it does prove that it will be laced with the striking, surrealist imagery that’s a hallmark of director Paolo Sorrentino’s style. See, for instance, a pieta, doused in light, in the middle of a field. Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film back in 2014.
There’s also a quick glimpse of Diane Keaton decked out in a nun’s habit, giving us faith that this might help her rebound from years of dopey rom-coms and family-friendly movies. The Young Pope is set to premiere in 2017.
