Theatrical-to-DVD window narrows for the holidays; theater-owners get grumpy
The Hollywood Reporter has noted a growing border skirmish between movie studios and multiplex operators, related to Paramount's decision to release its G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra and The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard on DVD and BD a mere 88 days after their respective theatrical release dates. In the Hollywood Reporter, National Association of Theater Owners president John Fithian is quoted as saying, "Our members are ballistic," even though there's no indication that Paramount plans to narrow its window on a regular basis. A larger question, though: Do movie-watchers pay attention to these windows as much as NATO thinks they do? Do people really consider how quickly G.I. Joe will be on DVD before they pony up for a theater ticket? We'd be interested in hearing your answers below.
