How do you pull off an “impossible bank heist” with the Russian mob breathing down your neck? The answer to that question is in the red band trailer for Triple 9, which is full of shootouts, double-crossers, and one all-important “officer down.” That’s Chris Allen (Casey Affleck), a rookie cop who is set up by his partner to provide a compelling distraction for the rest of the police department while said heist is going down.
Allen survives the attack and is bent on revenge—and justice. He’ll need his uncle and mentor, Sgt. Detective Jeffrey Allen (Woody Harrelson), who tells Chris his duty is to “out-monster the monster.” They’ll take on a group of corrupt cops and robbers, led by Terrell Tompkins (Chiwetel Ejiofor), operating under the watchful eye—and well-manicured hands—of Russian mafia moll, Irene (Kate Winslet). The impressive cast also includes Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, and Michael K. Williams.
Directed by John Hillcoat (Lawless, The Road) with a script from Matt Cook, Triple 9 opens in theaters in February 19th, 2016.
