Noted literary icon Eminem will be the subject of a new book of essays coming later this year. Eminem And Rap, Poetry, Race: Essays is out Nov. 30 and includes a foreword by Talib Kweli. Curated by Scott F. Parker, the 277-page academic tome looks to be a pretty straightforward piece of cultural studies work, with a blurb promising essays that draw “from history, philosophy, sociology, musicology, and other fields” to “consider Eminem’s place in hip-hop, the intellectual underpinnings of his work, and the roles of race, gender, and privilege in his career, among various other topics.” In other words, get ready for essays about Eminem’s lyrical murder of his now ex-wife, discussions of whether he got famous because he’s white, and arguments over whether his more sensationalist lyrics can be considered satire.
