There’s a new Dragon Ball Z fighting game, and it looks bonkers
Last week, the existence of a new 2-D fighting-game based on Dragon Ball Z leaked out ahead of its official reveal at the E3 video game conference. A few great-looking screenshots made their way online, but more exciting was the news that it’s being developed by Arc System Works, the studio behind beloved series like Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and Persona 4 Arena. Well, the game, officially titled Dragon Ball FighterZ, showed up at Microsoft’s pre-E3 showcase, and the debut trailer is absolutely bonkers.
Arc System Works knows a thing or two about making lavish 2-D/3-D hybrids. Its recent Guilty Gear Xrd games, which dynamically shift between the two, look incredible, and FighterZ appears to take that to another level with its infusion of Dragon Ball Z craziness and three-on-three battles. The game is scheduled for release early next year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Publisher Bandai Namco hopes to run a closed beta on consoles “before the end of summer.”
