There’s something spooky hiding in this trailer for Spike’s adaptation of The Mist

Stephen King’s The Mist and Frank Darabont’s movie adaptation from 2007 may be about a mysterious fog and the horrifying creatures that are hidden inside it, but they’re also about the dangers of a mob mentality and how quickly basic tenets of society can collapse when people are being threatened by forces they can’t even begin to understand. In theory, it should be difficult to take the bubbling tension of those stories and adapt it into a TV show, but this trailer for Spike’s adaptation of The Mist looks like it’s making some interesting changes to the source material. For one thing, the mist itself seems a bit more malevolent, inflicting some kind of psychological harm on its victims beyond just tossing monsters at them.

We’ll have to wait until June 22 to see what else Spike has in store for The Mist viewers.
