Only a day after the found-footage party comedy Project X got the enthusiastic thumbs-up for a sequel from Paramount’s accounting department, a follow-up for Fox's similarly faux-amateur-video superhero film Chronicle is also officially in the works, because money. Original screenwriter Max Landis has signed on to also pen the next one, although with director Josh Trank suddenly in demand for bigger potential superhero franchises, his own return isn’t assured. What is assured is that so long as found-footage films continue to make big returns on their low overhead—and they aren’t Apollo 18—they will continue to get sequels.
