That the Seann William Scott-starring hockey comedy Goon turned out to be pretty good, actually, was one of the year's biggest surprises—so naturally, there are plans to take that surprise and attempt to repeat it with a sequel. The film's co-writer and co-star Jay Baruchel made the announcement on Twitter, revealing that he and associate producer Jesse Chabot are reteaming with producer Evan Goldberg and director Michael Dowse to develop Goon 2, and continue the story of Scott's bouncer-turned-hockey enforcer as he gets hit in the face a lot on his way to redemption.
Anyway, perhaps sensing that the obligatory sequelization of absolutely everything that manages to find an audience these days might give fans pause, Baruchel offered some preemptive promises that everyone involved is well aware of that. "Please know this: GOON is pretty close to sacred for all of us involved and we would only be entertaining the idea of continuing the saga if we were all equally convinced that Doug, Laflamme, Stevesy, the Russians, Rolie, Ogilvy Belchy and Eva were only getting started," Baruchel wrote, adding, "We will give them and you guys the epic, violent, heartfelt awesomeness that is not just deserved but required." And obviously this is just speculation, but presumably Goon 2 will feature even more goon-ing. [via Coming Soon]
