There's going to be a documentary about Amy Winehouse now

The late, intermittently great singer Amy Winehouse is going to be the subject of a new documentary. Senna director Asif Kapadia is developing a new film about the bouffant-sporting Brit who died in 2011. The project, currently in development at Focus Features, will be presented to movie buyers at Cannes next month. It will be co-produced by Playmaker Films and Universal Music, meaning a guaranteed soundtrack tie-in and big posthumous sales for the singer. And it will all be done in a very respectful way, of course.

Kapadia told Variety his film is “incredibly modern, emotional, and relevant,” and that it “has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in”—specifically the way media hounding and instant success can contribute to the death of an already fragile individual.
