There's going to be a movie about the insane Gumball 3000 auto race
Warner Bros. and Chernin Entertainment are developing an action movie about the famous British Gumball 3000 race—a race that was itself inspired by the 1976 movie The Gumball Rally, and has already been adapted into a Burt Reynolds-narrated film in 2003. Billed as a caper pic in the vein of Ocean's 11, this new, as-yet-unnamed film will dramatize the annual 3,000-mile long race, which covers whole continents using public roads, each year following a different route. (In 2013, for example, the week-long race started in Copenhagen before running through Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, Krakow, Vienna, and Monaco.)
Like a real-life Cannonball Run (which is still also being considered for a remake), the 120-odd teams in the Gumball have boasted celebrities like David Hasselhoff, Bun B, Tony Hawk, Xzibit, and members of Cypress Hill. There’s no official timekeeping in the race, and no prize for the winner, other than bragging rights. Organizers of the race say it’s more about adventure than competition.
