These recorder covers blow
If you’ve been feeling nostalgic for the days of elementary school music class, when you and a bunch of other kids were taught how to play the shitty excuse for an instrument that is the recorder, look no further than shittyflute, a YouTube channel entirely dedicated to why you shouldn’t be. Shittyflute’s devotion to shittiness is absolute, with squealing, blown-out audio of recorders, kazoos, and other low-rent instruments layered atop the songs’ original backing tracks. The juxtaposition between the original music and shittyflute’s cheerfully incompetent performances can be sublime; enjoy Usher’s “Yeah!” for a paragon of the form.
There are, in total, over 100 shitty flute covers, including the themes from Game Of Thrones, Top Gun, and Star Wars. The most popular cover ever, though, is A-Ha’s “Take On Me,” and there is indeed something magical about the way that iconic synthesizer line sounds when shitted out of a recorder or a kazoo. Elsewhere, “Toxic” by Britney Spears adds some shitty violin into the mix, and it wouldn’t be a music covers account without a rendition of “Mad World.” Whether you like classical music, metal, pop, dubstep, vaporwave, or disco, shittyflute has got a shitty cover for you.
