They are the Crystal Gems, they're here to save Monday

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Monday, December 17. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Steven Universe (Cartoon Network, 7:30p.m.): Back in July’s eventful StevenBomb, Ruby and Sapphire’s beautiful wedding was cut short by the arrival of Blue (Lisa Hannigan) and Yellow Diamond (Patti LuPone), who traveled to earth to avenge Pink Diamond, resulting in a battle for the survival of the Gems, the Cluster, and possibly Earth itself. But, perhaps because they missed “A Single Pale Rose,” Yellow and Blue Diamond were missing some vital information, a state of affairs which Steven fought valiantly to correct.

Knowledge is power, and now that most everybody is in the know, it’s time for Steven and company to try to right some of the wrongs of the past. It looks like that means a trip is in order, and that’s what “Diamond Days,” a five-week Steven event, will follow. It kicks off with tonight’s “Legs From Here To Homeworld,” and Eric Thurm has already packed his bags and prepared to recap every battle, song, and joyful moment.

Regular coverage

Wild card

Mars (National Geographic, 10 p.m.): Tonight marks the second-season finale of this unique hybrid series, which pairs a scripted tale of a near-future (2042) Martian settlement with documentary sequences that explore what life on Mars might be like. In the finale, Lukrum goes too far and others are forced to clean up the corporation’s mess, but it may be too late; the documentary portion of the program will suss out the connections to the global warming crisis.
