They’re finally killing off the Paranormal Activity franchise
Blumhouse Films impresario Jason Blum—you know he’s the boss because it’s right there in the name—has declared his intention to kill off the Paranormal Activity movies, at which point the franchise can presumably get down to its real work of slamming doors and unscrewing light bulbs and moving things around in the Blumhouse offices.
In an interview with USA Today, itself a shambling ghost of a bygone cultural era, Blum says that the next Paranormal Activity film, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, will be the last. “It’s coming to an end. This is it, the finale,” Blum says. “We’re saying it before the movie opens. We’re not going to grind this horror franchise into the ground. This will keep Paranormal Activity as part of this culture and this particular time in a really fantastic way.”
But, since these are horror movies we’re talking about (or because the series has made a reported $383 million over five films, we’re not sure which) just because Paranormal Activity is dead doesn’t mean it will stay dead. “At some point, might there be a reboot? You never know,” Blum says. Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension hits theaters on October 23, followed (we assume) by a hologlass-only release of Rob Zombie’s Paranormal Activity sometime around October 2029.
