Things get frosty between Barry and Iris as The Flash faces a flurry of family drama

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Tuesday, April 23. All times are Eastern.

The Flash (The CW, 8 p.m.): Barry Allen makes a lot of mistakes. Sometimes, that’s an intentional part of the story, a way for the writers to again explore the idea that Team Flash only works when it’s just that: a team. Sometimes it seems a little less deliberate, as though the show is so invested in Barry’s inherent goodness that it forgets that he can be kind of the worst sometimes. Happily for audiences, though less happily for the West-Allen, the latest Flash fuck-up falls in the former category.

Having shipped his time-traveling daughter back to the future without consulting anyone else on the team—including her mother—Barry (Grant Gustin) seems to be rightly in for a world of shit. But Iris’ understandable outrage isn’t the only source of family drama in “Snow Pack,” which also sees the return of Icicle (Kyle Secor), the nefarious alter-ego of Caitlin Snow’s father. This time, Caitlin will be forced to turn to her mother (Susan Walters) for support, and that relationship, while a lot less super-powered, is every bit as fraught. Scott Von Doviak has his popcorn ready.

1969 (ABC, 10 p.m.): One of several recent glimpses back into a pivotal year in American history, ABC’s new docuseries will touch on everything from the Stonewall Uprising to John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Bed-Ins For Peace. The first of six installments turns its eyes upward to the first moon landing. Interviewees include Katherine Johnson and Christine Darden, two of the “hidden figures” featured in the book (and later film) Hidden Figures.
