Things to watch with your family that won't make you want to shoot yourself

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Monday, Dec. 26. All times are Eastern.

TOP PICK
Misfits (Hulu, 3 p.m.): Why do What’s On Tonight on a week when everyone else is making merry? Because if we don’t keep working, how will we know we’re alive? That’s a good question, right? Anyway, Rowan Kaiser is also working, and he’ll be covering the latest Misfits for y’all, and he insists it’s a good one. It’s pretty much the only thing worth writing about today, anyway, since most of the rest of TV is just a random collection of marathons and crap.

TV CLUB ADVENT CALENDAR
A Charlie Brown Christmas (Sunday): Todd VanDerWerff makes a bunch of weird apologies for something he really likes instead of just saying, “Hey, I really liked this,” but, then, we all know that Charlie Brown Christmas is worthy of his love. (Hope you enjoyed this feature!)

WHAT ELSE IS ON?
Awkward. (MTV, 5 p.m.): Didn’t catch up with this funny and enjoyable teen sitcom this summer? Here’s the perfect chance to watch the entirety of season one over six hours. Trust us; once you start, you probably won’t want to stop.

Rudolph’s Shiny New Year (ABC, 8 p.m.): Every so often, somebody gets it in their heads to produce a New Year’s special, despite the fact that there’s not really a lot of mythology built up around the holiday. This is one of the weirder examples of that.

Silver Bells (Hallmark, 8 p.m.): Give it up, Hallmark. You had a good run. Our grandmas will all tune in to you again next October. Now back away from the big, red Christmas movie button and get back to showing Waltons reruns.

The Year The Earth Went Wild (Discovery, 9 p.m.): It’s time for year-end wrap-ups, that will attempt to explain everything that was great and/or horrible about 2011 before it slips inexorably into the past. This one is about, uh, the year in natural disasters. Okay then.

Diners, Drive-Ins, And Dives (Food, 10 p.m.): There’s a surprising amount of new content on tonight—mostly on cable—but almost all of it sucks. Here’s at least one vaguely acceptable option if you’re looking for something to watch with your family.

House Hunters (HGTV, 10 p.m.): And here’s another.

Avatar (Cinemax, 6:15 p.m.): Have you thought about how this is the biggest movie of all time, but nobody likes to admit they saw and/or liked it? Even Titanic didn’t fade from the public consciousness this quickly! Anyway, blue people sex. Go.

Little Dorrit (TCM, 8 p.m.): So if you turn on this 1986 adaptation of the Dickens novel, you’ll be watching a highly acclaimed adaptation of a terrific book and can feel vaguely cultured. On the other hand, you’ll be watching it for six hours. So.

Monday Night Football: Falcons at Saints (ESPN, 8:30 p.m.): The ESPN ads have been frantically trying to sell this one as extremely important, but isn’t the NFC wild card picture mostly set with the Bears’ loss? Nice try, ESPN! You can’t fool us!

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Leverage (Sunday): Apparently, the Leverage gang was as thrilled about working on Christmas as you would be, so they turned in this boring snooze-fest of an episode, and then we made Phil Nugent watch it because we hate him.
