We’re all just trying to do the best we can out here. Doesn’t matter what our jobs are or our problems—at the end of the day, all we can try to do is get by. Overcome one problem and proceed to the next. Overcome that one and plan for another. To live is to find joy in this cycle: to delight in the challenges of life and to savor the rewards of them. All that can be asked is that we do the best we can.
You know who was great at that? Graham Lubbock, star of Growing Pains spin-off Just The Ten Of Us, which ran for three seasons in the late ’80s and early ’90s as part of the early TGIF era. The football coach and father of eight had a lot to contend with—like the fact that his teenage daughters were going to an all-boys school, uh-oh!—as well as, presumably, the disastrous effects of trickle-down economics on the middle class, especially when you’ve got 10 damn mouths to feed.
But Lubbock did the best he could, dammit, as immortalized in the supremely applicable theme song, which is now being applied to pretty much everything imaginable on this Twitter account.
It is never not applicable.
Okay, some of those don’t really fit, but who gives a shit. The important part is that they all did the best they could. At the end of the day, it’s all that matters.
