This cringeworthy interview from the Caddyshack press tour is just excruciating
Modern press junkets can be awkward, what with clueless regional morning show journalists asking everyone from Kristen Stewart to Bill Murray the same monotonous questions about their co-stars and green screens before making some sort of hack joke about the interviewee’s movie. And if that kind of schlock is boring for us actual fans to watch, imagine what it’s like for the stars forced to endure it. (Fortunately, the occasional big payday probably makes it worth it.)
The sad thing is, though, that what we’re seeing now as far as junkets is actually a big improvement over what they used to be. Take, for instance, the following cringeworthy example from the Caddyshack press tour. In the clip, which has re-surfaced after Chris Hardwick mentioned it on a recent episode of the Nerdist podcast, a very nice but clueless older woman (Editor’s note: It’s Bobbie Wygant) drags Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Ted Knight, and Rodney Dangerfield down some dangerously inane rabbit holes. Some of her questions are almost painfully ridiculous but, as Uproxx points out, some of actors were probably “high or wasted or both” during the interview, so hopefully they at least had a bit of fun with it.
