Representing the last of Showtime’s once-immortal original series old guard, Californication is set to follow Dexter and Weeds into the sunset, in front of which David Duchovny will be tastefully screwing his last. Deadline reports that the network “quietly” ordered a seventh and final season after the show’s sixth wrapped, with one-year deals with the actors secured and producers working up a final arc that will begin unfolding in the show’s seventh season beginning in April. The last episodes sound poised to take on a possible meta edge, as Duchovny’s troubled-by-all-the-sex-he’s-having writer joins the staff of a cop show based on his unreleased film, then squares off against a demanding producer played by Michael Imperioli and his fellow writers like Mary Lynn Rasjkub, while also dealing with an “old friend” played by Heather Graham—all presumably leading up to Duchovny’s character deciding to just ditch it all and become a lumberjack. Lots of trees you can screw as a lumberjack.
