This supercut proves just how much Stanley Kubrick loved to use red

It may be hard to remember in these color-corrected days, but there was once a time when the use of color in film was a more thoughtful process than hitting the “desaturate” and “lower color temperature” buttons in Final Cut and waiting for the MacBook to do its thing while you go get a burrito. Viddy well, then, at this supercut of Stanley Kubrick’s considered use of red in movies he directed, from Spartacus to Eyes Wide Shut. Appropriately scored with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the video from Vimeo user Rishi Kaneria, no stranger to deconstructing the use of color in movies, covers every movie Kubrick directed in color and serves as just one more reminder of how much care he put into every single frame of film he directed—or at least how much dude liked the dang ol’ color red.
