The couch gags on The Simpsons are just as iconic as the show itself. With hundreds of episodes under its belt, the animated series has proudly constructed intros in almost every style imaginable. In addition to the cleverly crafted in-house gags, famous guest collaborators have directed their own uniquely twisted opening sequences. Some of the most notable contributors have included street artist Banksy, filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, and animators Don Hertzfeldt, John Kricfalusi, and Sylvain Chomet.
In February, Australian pixel artists Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon revealed their take on the classic opening. The video grabbed the attention of Simpsons execs who in turn placed the intro in an actual episode. That may also be the hope of French character designer Yoann Hervo who recently made one of the most bizarre sequences yet. Remember that time Marge Simpson took a swig of tainted water and the kitchen walls started melting? This video is kind of like that, but a lot freakier. As Homer once said, “Wow, that saxophone would make a great pipe.”
