This vintage movie preview proves that the summer of ‘82 was the best for sci-fi

1982 was a different time. The Weather Channel was new on the air, Cal Ripkin Jr. had just begun his 2,632-game streak, and Ron Hendren was one of the hosts of Entertainment Tonight.

It was also incredible year for science fiction movies, as evidenced by this broadcast from the time, which sees Hendren encouraging viewers to check out Blade Runner, Tron, E.T., The Thing, and Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan.

Standout lines in this clip include “a very lovely genetically manufactured woman,” “ghosts-can-do-anything attitude,” “all-male cast,” and “a bold move to get kids out of the video arcades.”

The best part of all, though, is Hendren’s cheerful spoiling of The Wrath Of Khan’s ending, with the host telling the audience “One of the main features of this sequel is the ending, where the beloved Mr. Spock meets his end.”

Spoiler alert on Ron Hendren: He left Entertainment Tonight in 1984 after a contract dispute, and seemingly disappeared.
