This year’s Call Of Duty takes war to the stars
Call Of Duty has a noted history of killing astronauts, but even as the games marched further and further into the future, the series has largely remained earthbound. This year, though, Activision and the developers at Infinity Ward are finally realizing the series’ destiny and bringing its bombastic brand of wartime heroics to the stars with Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
It’s set in a future where Earth’s nations cooperated long enough to create an organization that colonizes and harvests resources from other planets. Of course, some angry fascists living on the fringes of the solar system can’t leave well enough alone and start a space war with the rest of humanity. As Brawny Army Man #38, players will lead Earth’s forces against this foe, pilot ships both in and out of space, and, from the looks of the debut trailer, spend plenty of time tumbling uncontrollably in zero gravity. As for the part of Call Of Duty that most people care about—the multiplayer—there’s no word yet on how the game’s space-faring firefights will factor in, although Activision did announce that the game includes a new take on the series’ Zombie mode.
Activision also unveiled the long-rumored re-release of Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This “remastered” edition will bring both the story and multiplayer modes of the series’ most beloved installment to modern game systems. You’d think this is the kind of thing Activision would be interested in selling to as many people as possible, but at least for now, the only way to get it is by buying one of Infinite Warfare’s various deluxe editions when the game is released on November 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
