Thomas Haden Church and Molly Shannon caught up in Sarah Jessica Parker’s Divorce
Never let it be said that Sarah Jessica Parker can’t identify a trend when she sees one. Following the 2004 departure of her iconic Sex And The City series and after several years of starring in movies, Parker is now headed back to TV. The success of Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce has paved the way for shows about newly single women in midlife, and Parker’s upcoming Divorce, a half-hour comedy for HBO, will reflect that trend with Parker playing, as Variety describes, “a woman who suddenly reassesses her life and marriage and realizes that a fresh start is much harder than she thought.”
Thomas Haden Church has now been cast as Parker’s soon-to-be-ex-husband, along with all-important gal pals like Saturday Night Live’s Molly Shannon (“Frances’ high-strung friend, Diane, who has a successful husband, beautiful home, but no children”) and Mad Men’s Talia Balsam (“Dallas, a close friend who has been widowed and divorced”). Actor-writer Sharon Horgan (The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret) created the series and penned the pilot. Much like Sex And The City, Parker’s new show will once again find her in New York, where she can still be surrounded by fabulous fashions as she enters this solitary stage of her life.
