Thor will be back in 2013, but not with Kenneth Branagh
Marvel has gone ahead and set a tentative July 26, 2013 release date for Thor 2, confirming what many already assumed given a) Thor’s $437 million-plus global box-office take, b) its role in the forthcoming pop culture domination of The Avengers, c) the fact that even underperforming superhero franchises get sequels these days, and d) striation patterns in centuries-old bedrock. Seriously, this thing was a given to return. Unfortunately, while that also goes for star Chris Hemsworth, it does not include director Kenneth Branagh, who has exited under “mutual and amicable” circumstances—although he will remain on in some sort of producer capacity. That leaves his job wide open for some other unlikely director to come and try his hand at a superhero franchise. James Ivory?
