Thurston Moore joins black metal supergroup Twilight
Picking up yet another project (to go with recent Matador signees Chelsea Light Moving) now that Sonic Youth is on "longterm hold," Thurston Moore has joined the black metal supergroup Twilight. Not named after nor inspired by the popular book and movie series, the group features Nachtmystium’s Blake Judd, producer Sanford Parker, Atlas Moth’s Stavros Giannopoulos, Leviathan’s Wrest, and Krieg’s Imperial. In an interview with 1st Five, Judd said he also hopes to recruit Isis’ Aaron Turner, Lichens’ Rob Lowe, and Xasthur’s Malefic. The band will release its first album this fall on Century Media.
Judd’s a bit of a Sonic Youth fanatic, telling 1st Five in the aforementioned interview that he’d bend over backward to have Moore in the group. He said, “Century Media could offer us a hundred thousand dollars to make that Twilight record and say: 'Blake, you get 90 percent of that money, but Thurston Moore's not gonna be on the record. Or, you can be on it and we'll give you 10 grand and that's what you have to make it work.' And I would take the 10 grand and work with Thurston.”
