Tig Notaro's reportedly amazing comedy set about getting cancer lands her an album and a book deal

Back in August, comedian Tig Notaro made headlines for what was, by all accounts, a truly revelatory stand-up set at Los Angeles' Largo Theater, in which she riffed on her recent discovery that she had breast cancer—which came amid a Job-like storm of personal tragedy—to awe-inspiring effect. Unfortunately for most, the Largo only holds so many people, ostensibly limiting what Louis C.K. called one of only "a handful of truly masterful performances" he's ever seen in his 27-year career to secondhand accounts of how you should have been there. Fortunately, audio recording equipment exists, and even more fortunately it was used that night to capture Notaro's set for an upcoming exclusive release through C.K.'s website. Titled LIVE—as in the verb form, as in "continue to not die from cancer"—the performance will be Notaro's official second album, and if the show reviews are any indication, one that's incredibly heartbreaking and funny in equal measure. And that's not all: Sometime thereafter, Notaro will expand on those mixed feelings with a book of autobiographical essays, to be published in 2015 by HarperCollins imprint Ecco. Anyway, not sure how you ever top the moment where you turn getting cancer into transcendent comedy and breakout success, but you know, here's hoping Notaro never has to try.
