Tim Heidecker responds to Alabama abortion ban with charity single, "To The Men"

This week, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a law that, in addition to banning most abortions in the state, makes performing one a felony punishable by up to 99 years. Though exceptions are made if the mother’s health is at risk, there are none for those who’ve been impregnated by rape or incest. The law will be delayed in the courts until Roe v. Wade is overturned, but, in an effort to ensure that doesn’t happen, a number of prominent voices have spoken out against it, including Hillary Clinton, Lady Gaga, Sarah Silverman, Ava DuVernay, and more. Many more urging those concerned to contribute to organizations like the Kentucky Health Justice Network and Access Reproductive Care-Southeast.

There’s also the Yellowhammer Fund, an organization that aims to provide funding for anyone seeking care at Alabama’s three abortion clinics. That’s where comedian and musician Tim Heidecker is donating all the proceeds from his latest song, one he wrote as a direct response to the laws. Called “To The Men,” it pulls no punches in its tale of a 13-year old with nowhere to turn during an unwanted pregnancy. In it, the singer directly addresses the 25 state senators responsible for the law, the likes of whom you can see in the single’s cover art below (they look exactly how you’d think).

“To the men in theirs brown suits/ to the men passing laws,” he sings, “I just have a simple question/ to the men without flaws/ have you seen a young girl dying/ have you seen ‘em bleed to death/ have you seen a young girl dying/ have you seen ‘em take their final breath?”
