Tina Fey sold NBC another comedy starring Ellie Kemper

Tina Fey has sold her third television series this development season, proving again that Fey is actually a very respected, successful comedy writer and that 30 Rock was fake, except in regard to almost every other decision NBC makes. Not in this particular case, though: The network has given a straight-to-series, 13-episode order to Fey’s new series co-created with 30 Rock’s Robert Carlock, about a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and moves to New York—the city where the sitcoms are, and definitely no looming sense of apocalyptic doom. Said woman will be played by another NBC Thursday night refugee, The Office’s Ellie Kemper, who similarly escaped a group for whom the fear of it all being over for them once seemed pretty nigh. This as-yet-untitled show joins Fey and Carlock’s comedy about an all-girls college over at Fox, their other potential NBC show set on Fire Island, and pretty much anything else they can come up with between now and the end of the year.
