Tina Fey, Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K. win the first-ever Comedy Awards

Saturday saw the debut of The Comedy Awards, the Viacom-launched foray into one of the few remaining entertainment holes that does not have trophies stuffed into it on a regular basis. Not surprisingly, the soon-to-be-annual heaping of accolades on people who were funny this year recognized a lot of familiar names—Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Modern Family, The Daily Show—but as we pointed out when the nominations were announced, it was also one of the few places where Louis C.K. and Childrens Hospital could (and did!) walk away with the right to use the all important hyphenate “award-winning.” A list of the major winners is below; in addition, Bill Murray presented the show’s inaugural Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence to David Letterman, while Eddie Murphy picked up the first Career Icon Award for his career prior to, let’s say, around 2000. The awards show airs April 10 as a simulcast on Comedy Central, Nick At Nite, VH1, TV Land, CMT, Spike TV, and Logo.
