Presumably because it’s been away painting houses with a family friend, nearly two months after child molestation allegations against Josh Duggar first came to light, TLC has finally gotten around to crossing “Cancel 19 Kids And Counting” off of its to-do list. The network tells The Associated Press that the popular reality show “will no longer appear on the air,” adding that it is teaming with child-protection organizations, including the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network and Darkness to Light, for an “ongoing campaign” to raise awareness of child sexual abuse.
That campaign will reportedly begin with a one-hour special about child abuse that will air sometime this fall; according to sources quoted in Variety, the special will feature the Duggar sisters who admit to being victimized by Josh when they were children. (The sisters previously gave an interview to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly in which they said their brother was “a little too curious about girls.”) Given the circumstances, sticking yet more cameras in these young women’s faces might not seem like the classiest move, but considering it takes no less than child molestation allegations for TLC to pull one of its reality-TV cash cows from the air, “classy” never entered into the equation.
