TLC to slap a new coat of paint on Trading Spaces

TLC is planning on reviving Trading Spaces, the show that glued actual barnyard-style hay to some poor family’s walls. The network announced its plan to bring back Spaces—which aired on the network from 2000 to 2011, and was in part responsible for today’s home design TV boom—at the Discovery Channel’s upfront presentation today, though details about the reboot were woefully sparse. It’s unclear whether the show’s renovation budget will jump from the meager $1000 each family got, and whether the show’s fun and/or grating personalities—Paige Davis, Genevieve Gorder, Hildi Santo-Tomas, Doug Wilson, Frank Bieliec, Vern Yip, et al.—will return. It seems probable that some changes will be made, given the HGTV generation’s zeal for design that’s at least somewhat livable and not, you know, just a bunch of sand dumped on the floor of someone’s living room.
