Proving yet again that Hollywood is filled with pilates instructors, Frank Darabont has also found himself spurned from TNT with the cancellation of Mob City, his L.A. noir series that was forced to not call itself that. While the show was only ordered as a six-episode limited series, the possibility was always left open for it to continue into another season—at least, until the network issued a statement shooting that down, like a nattily dressed but not particularly complex 1940s gangster. “Although the ratings of the limited series haven’t warranted more hours we are eager to work with Frank Darabont again,” the statement reads, though it remains open to speculation whether Darabont shares that sentiment. Anyway, with no more episodes forthcoming, we can spoil what happens after the 1947 events of Mob City: James Ellroy is born and writes a much better version of this story.
