It’s been about a year since we got word that Bong Joon-ho’s 2014 sci-fi drama Snowpiercer was being re-processed into a television series by Tomorrow Studios and Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Since then, we’ve all been understandably preoccupied with our own impending dystopian future. Now, with that scenario on the cusp of being realized, it’s time to retreat back into the comparable escapism of post-apocalyptic genre TV. So the news that TNT has just ordered a pilot for Snowpiercer is welcome news.
“Snowpiercer has one of the most original concepts to hit the screen in the last decade, and it’s one that offers numerous opportunities for deeper exploration in a series format,” Sarah Aubrey executive VP of original programming for TNT, said in a statement. “We look forward to expanding TNT’s relationship with Tomorrow Studios and their take on a world where humanity is pushed to the extreme.”
With the Michelle Dockery vehicle Good Behavior having recently debuted to positive reviews, it looks like the basic cable network is eager to join the rest of television in the prestige drama business. “TNT has become a great producing partner to Tomorrow Studios and we are excited to continue our relationship with them on Snowpiercer, for which we not only have a pilot but are writing multiple scripts,” Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein said. “This is an incredibly powerful story and one for which finding the perfect home was imperative to its success.”
