TNT renders its judgment, cancels Murder In The First
TNT continues to clear crime-based original series from its docket—following the termination of the partnership of Rizzoli & Isles, the cable network’s bringing Murder In The First to an end after three seasons. That’s according to Deadline, which has learned that TNT’s decided to release Steve Bochco’s series on its own recognizance. (TNT just doesn’t ever want to see Murder In The First in its courtroom ever again, got that? Go make something of your life.)
If you’re struggling to recall the elements of the crime-solving anthology series, it starred Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson as Terry English and Hildy Mulligan, two homicide inspectors in San Francisco who find themselves in True Detective-like circumstances when their independent murder investigations converge. Richard Schiff, Steven Weber, and James Cromwell all showed up in season one, which also saw Tom Felton take his Draco Malfoy act to Silicon Valley. Season three wrapped last month, with a ratings high for the show. Maybe Bochco will rework his idea yet again—Murder In The First recalled his Murder One—and rebrand it with the snappier title of English & Mulligan.
