Fire up the fan fiction, as Rizzoli & Isles has been renewed for a sixth season. The detective procedural with subtle lesbian undertones (but no actual lesbian romance) will return to TNT next summer after its fifth season wraps up in March. The show has been a consistent hit for TNT; it was the most watched basic cable series of the summer in 2014 and has ranked as a top five cable series throughout its run. But with TNT looking to bring more of an edge to its original programming, fans were nervous about the future of their beloved “Rizzles” friendship.
While Deadline reports the series was never actually in jeopardy, it was the last TNT program to get a pickup. Thankfully, the 18-episode sixth season will now give the cast and creators even more opportunities to play up the sexual tension between police detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander).
