TNT sharpens its Claws for a second season
The mani-pedis and mayhem will continue on Claws, as Deadline reports TNT’s just renewed the crime dramedy for a second season. Created by Eliot Laurence, the series Reno 911!’s Niecy Nash as the morally compromised owner of a nail salon, who goes from merely scratching the criminal underbelly of Palmetto to staking out territory for herself and her employees. The neon noir also features a knockout, inclusive cast—along with Nash, Claws stars Judy Reyes, Carrie Preston, Jenn Lyon, and newcomer Karrueche Tran.
Claws is executive produced by Laurence, Rashida Jones, and Will McCormack, with Janine Sherman Barrois (ER, Criminal Minds) serving as showrunner. The series premiered to solid reviews and ratings, but has become “the highest-rated TNT series launched since the cable network’s programming shift last year under the new regime” after five episodes. There’s some equivocating there, sure, but the series has managed to pique the interest of the coveted adults 18-49 demographic, so it’s sitting pretty for season two.
