The Closer—TNT’s tough lady cop drama progenitor to all TNT tough lady cop dramas—will end after next year’s seventh season, with Deadline reporting that star Kyra Sedgwick is taking the Steve Carell way out and opting to bail once her current contract is done. Unlike The Office, of course, “Kyra is The Closer,” in the words of one network insider, so replacing her would be “like continuing The Mentalist without Simon Baker,” which is a Kafkaesque scenario too confusing to comprehend, like being locked in a small, dark interrogation room with a detective who uses various unorthodox methods of getting us to confess to crimes.
