To All The Boys I've Loved Before is getting a sequel
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was a major hit for Netflix, and like any sensible purveyor of film stuffs, these guys aren’t going to let that success linger in the streaming ether. Not when there’s so much more money to be made! The good news, according to Deadline, is that we’re getting a sequel to the internet’s new favorite YA movie. The bad news is that it will not be called 2 All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.
Lana Condor will almost certainly reprise her lead role from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before in the sequel. The actress recently expressed interest in returning, and she’s not the only one: Author Jenny Han, who wrote the series of YA books on which the film was based, is similarly down for a sequel. It’s unclear if your imaginary boyfriend Noah Centineo and director Susan Johnson will also be on board, however.
The sequel is the first project on the agenda in Paramount’s new multi-film deal with Netflix, which includes “a mix of library IP and probably some new IP at a range of budget levels,” according to Viacom CEO Bob Bakish. Describing the studio like an addict jonesing for its score, Deadline says that “Paramount got a taste of the potential for working with Netflix” when it sold (read: dumped) The Cloverfield Paradox to the streaming company.
Although Netflix doesn’t make its streaming numbers available to the public, Bakish says that To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is “one of the most-viewed films of all time on the platform.” Given its intense social media presence, we’ll take his word for it.
