To no one's surprise, the Little Women cast says Laura Dern was the "mother hen" on set

Like Louisa May Alcott’s novel, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women welcomes audiences into the warm, loving, and often chaotic home of the March family. Presiding over the March madness is Marmee, whose gentle soul and firm resolve make her an idyllic matriarch, stoking the flames of ambition in her daughters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. Unsurprisingly, Laura Dern embodies the role perfectly, and—even less shocking— Dern was a bit of a Marmee during production for the film’s young cast. During our recent visit to Concord, Massachusetts (where some of Little Women was filmed, and where Alcott spent much of her childhood), we sat down with Dern and her co-stars Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, and Eliza Scanlen to talk about her part as the set’s “mother hen.” We also spoke about the production’s “no phones on set rule,” and discussed how working on the movie made them look at Alcott’s Little Women in a new way.
