Toad

Who he is: Toad, a.k.a. Mortimer Toynbee

His power: As befits the name, Toad can jump high and far, has an extremely long tongue that he uses like a whip, and spits a thick, sticky slime out of his mouth.

His story: It’s not clear what transpired in the period between Toad’s military service in the Vietnam War (as seen in X-Men: Days Of Future Past) and his time with Magneto and his mutant brotherhood, but it makes sense that Toynbee would join an aggressive mutant leader after being used as cannon fodder in war. As part of Magneto’s crew in X-Men, Toad faces off against the X-Men at an Upstate New York train station, where he helps abduct Rogue, and on Ellis Island, where his death serves as the punch line of a notoriously bad piece of dialogue from Storm: “You know what happens when a toad gets struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else.”

Played by: Evan Jonigkeit in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and Andy Park in X-Men

Currently, Toad is: Probably watching Miami Vice, using his 13-foot tongue to grab a beer from the fridge. Or on the run from a mutant-hating society. It’s the ’80s, and Toad didn’t show up in X-Men: Apocalypse, so there are a lot of options for what Mortimer is doing.

Where will we see him next? Toad isn’t confirmed for any future X-movie appearances, but he could appear in the next sequel set in the ’90s, especially because he’s a member of Magneto’s team at the start of the ’00s.
