Today in male objectification: Burt Reynolds regrets his nude Cosmo centerfold

Won’t someone think of the beefcake? Plenty of people are, and feeling kind of weird about it, after actor/hairy refrigerator of a man Burt Reynolds said at SXSW this past weekend that he regrets posing nude for the April 1972 issue of Cosmopolitan. The octogenarian actor revealed as much at a Q&A session at this year’s SXSW, where he appeared to promote the new documentary The Bandit, about Reynolds’ friendship with his longtime stuntman Hal Needham.

Naturally, the talk soon turned to the infamous centerfold of Reynolds, lying on a bear rug slightly more hairy than he is, a highly symbolic cigarillo between his strong, masculine teeth. Although Reynolds is completely nude, he does have one hand draped over his crotch, leaving the proverbial wedding tackle covered by his brawny, probably smoother than you might think palm. “I wish I hadn’t done that. I really do,” Reynolds said.

He was game for it at the time, though: “As long as it was only a certain amount of pubic hair showing, then I was all for it,” Reynolds added, before revealing how he got that confidence: “The only rules I had was I wanted a lot drinks before because I was a little bit, well, I have to be truthful, I was totally zonkered when we did the picture. And that stupid smile, that’s what it is,” he said, flashing his pearly choppers in a big fake smile.
