Today in music videos: Bloc Party gets Olympic with "Octopus"

Four years ago, Bloc Party rushed out its third album Intimacy, an electronics-heavy record that sounded about as thoughtfully conceived as the strategy that saw it released the same week it was completed. After a long layoff, a solo record for frontman Kele Okereke, and greatly exaggerated rumors of the band’s demise, Bloc Party returns with the video for its newest single “Octopus.” Visually it features some glitchy loop editing, lots of primary colors, and some rhythmic gymnastics with ribbons and hula hoops as the band performs in a run-down warehouse. The song points to a bit more of a stripped-down style with less electronic influence than Intimacy, albeit topped by a guitar solo with tinges of Van Halen’s “Eruption.” The band’s fourth album, aptly titled Four, comes out August 21.
