Today in music videos: The Darkness returns to dry-humping the line between irony and homage on "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us"

The Darkness' 2004 debut Permission To Land was (if you were a fan) an affectionate and super catchy tribute to '70s arena-rock. Yes, there was irony, but laughing at The Darkness didn't preclude enjoying them if you appreciated the songwriting and the reference points. Even detractors had to recognize The Darkness' commitment to outmoded stereotypes: 2005's One Way Ticket To Hell … And Back was a perfect re-creation of the standard-issue, thoroughly coked-up, and inevitably disappointing follow-up to countless arena-rock blockbusters. But now The Darkness is back with a new song, "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us," that attempts to make the world forget all that. And it actually does a pretty good job: Justin Hawkins can still hit the high notes, the chorus is huge and shiny, and the lyrics are as ridiculous as always. ("I was pullin' a wheelie / You're pullin' my hair"). The song comes from the band's as-yet-untitled third record, and arrives as The Darkness launches a new tour with a sold-out show tonight in Toronto. Check out the video below. [via Spin]
