Today in Star Wars rumors: Gary Oldman acts in movies, so obviously he's being considered for Star Wars

In the continuing absence of any official Star Wars news, the world has been forced to cast the upcoming Episode VII through the process of elimination—asking every single actor whether they’ve been considered for the film, then divining from there. It’s a painfully slow methodology, but also a sloppy and ineffective one, which is vital for fueling the baseless speculation that sustains the Internet. Anyway, we can now cross Gary Oldman’s name off that master list, as he recently confirmed to Sky Movies that he’s a working actor, so therefore, yes, he’s been considered for a role in Star Wars. “They’ve called,” Oldman says in the below video. “I’m more cynical about it now. I believe it when I’m on the plane home… But they’ve inquired.”

Oldman—who was previously up for the role of General Grievous in Revenge Of The Sith, only to drop out when he discovered it would violate union rules of the Screen Actors Guild—seems bemused by the very idea of joining yet another huge franchise. “I mean, Planet Of The Apes, Harry Potter, and Batman, and Star Wars… bloody hell,” Oldman says in a moment of introspection, perhaps reflecting on how an actor once synonymous with tormented psychos has become some kind of living action figure. Still, whether Oldman actually signs on or not, we can now move on to asking all other remaining actors about whether they’re up for Star Wars. Maybe Ellen DeGeneres could just get a show of hands at the Oscars, help us knock this out.
