In a story that is absolutely real and not some sort of satirical commentary on their career, the Black Eyed Peas are opening a music school in Manhattan, aimed at teaching teens between the ages of 13 and 19 the skills they will need to create music, which is ostensibly what the Black Eyed Peas do. The Peapod Adobe Youth Voices academy will be housed in a facility run by the Urban Arts Partnership, which provides arts education for poverty-stricken and otherwise at-risk children, a fact that makes us feel somewhat guilty for mocking it. Still, that doesn’t mean this isn’t the music education equivalent of, say, Exxon launching a charity aimed at creating awareness about climate change. So anyway, Peapod will allow them to learn video and music production using state-of-the-art equipment, such as the many algorithmic generators, BabelFish translators, and stacks of George Clinton CDs that the Peas use to write their own songs.
