In news that would make for an excellent throwaway joke on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David is reportedly close to signing on to the Farrelly Brothers’ Three Stooges movie as Mother Mengele, a nun at the Jane Lynch-run orphanage where the Stooges grow up and cause miscellaneous Stooge-like mayhem. Upon learning that David, the very embodiment of orthodox Catholicism, would don the nun’s habit for a movie about the Three Stooges, neither David nor anyone in his immediate circle uttered, “Get the fuck out of here. Are you nuts?” followed by an awkward silence and comical sousaphone music, nor did David take the part as a lark and then immediately blow it by saying something hilariously blasphemous to the press. This is, in fact, real life.
