Up today: Rebirth Of Mothra
Mothra tended to play second-fiddle to Godzilla in Toho's giant monster fans. Why? Well, because she's a giant moth. That's simply not that scary. But kids looking for a less-terrifying way into the world of kaiju never needed to look any further than Mothra, who had a three-film revival in the 1990s starting with Rebirth Of Mothra in 1996, complete with the tiny, creepy, smiling people that made the original so memorable. This is another entry from a period of kaiju filmmaking that only diehards have seen. And, like the others, it sticks to a winning formula. If you like your giant monsters puppet-like (with a few modern touches) and your dialogue badly dubbed, you've come to the right place.
